Dane Cornel Petersen has been a celebrity agent, manager, coach, and career development guru since 1980. He has worked with some of the biggest celebrities in history. He started the Author’s Workshop because of the never-ending calls from authors asking for help.
"The cry is always the same," says Petersen. "’Please help me, I don't know what to do next. Everyone is trying to take advantage of me.’” Before we begin to work on the author’s career, we first untangle the mistakes they have made, and additionally we expose those that are trying to take their money, using a variety of schemes.
Dozens of calls each month come in from authors who have been ripped off by vanity presses with slick marketing and believable letters. "The average loss that authors tell me they have been taken for is between $900 to $3,000 in up-front deposits, the loss of their copyright and not being able to get their book rights back, attorney fees and much more. To most, it is heartbreakingly painful . . . often the loss of their dreams. Because of this, I simply decided to become the Robin Hood of authors for all those who were mortgaging their homes to supposedly get a book deal," states Petersen. "The cons prey on the hopeful by selling dreams and false promises."
